On Friday, 16 March 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari approved members of the National Food Security Council (NFSC). The NFSC, to be chaired by the President will be inaugurated on Monday, 19 March 2018.
Objectives of the NFSC include: developing sustainable solutions to: (i) farmers and herdsmen clashes, (ii) climate change, desertification, and their impacts on farmland, grazing areas, lakes, rivers and other water bodies, (iii) oil spillage and its impact on Niger Delta Fishing Communities, (iv) piracy and banditry, (v) agricultural research institutions and extension services, and (vi) smuggling.
The NFSC will also engage in regional and global discourse on food security, especially in relation to food security in Nigeria.

Ministers of: Agriculture and Rural Development; Budget and National Planning; Environment; Industry,Trade and Investment; Interior; Finance; and Water Resources.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation; the Chief of Staff to the President; the National Security Adviser; the Chief of Defence Staff; the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; the Director-General of the State Services; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency; and the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
