The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Equator Initiative and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Secretariat have established an Online Discussion Forum on Integration of Article 8(j) of the CBD and Provisions Related to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in the Work of the Convention and its Protocols.

The outcomes of the discussions will contribute to the following: (i) future work and institutional arrangements for indigenous peoples and local communities under the CBD, (ii) consideration of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) at the CBD’s eleventh meeting in November 2019, for further consideration by the Subsidiary Body on Implementation at its third meeting (June 2020), and (iii) the CBD Conference of the Parties at its fifteenth meeting in 2020.
