The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has opened an external office in Nigeria. The WIPO Nigeria Office opened in January 2020 is WIPO’s second external office in Africa. The first, in Algiers, Algeria, was opened in 2019.
According to Francis Gurry, Director-General of WIPO:
The external offices provide cost-effective support services in relation to the PCT, Madrid and Hague systems; arbitration and mediation; collective management; and development and capacity building. In a fast-changing world, WIPO’s external offices are an increasingly important part of the Organisation’s enhanced engagement with our member states and stakeholders, on the ground, as we lead the development of a balanced and effective international intellectual property system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
The WIPO Nigeria Office, headed by Programme Officer, Mr Oluwatobiloba Moody, will work closely with all WIPO sectors and work areas to promote the strategic goals of WIPO in Nigeria.
