OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2020-2029

The OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2020-2029 (Outlook) provides market projections for national, regional and global demand and supply of major agricultural commodities, biofuel and fish. The Outlook, jointly prepared by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development (OECD) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, incorporates expertise from collaborating member countries and international commodity organisations.

The Outlook projections are influenced both by current market conditions and by specific assumptions concerning macroeconomic developments, the policy environment, technological change, weather, demographic trends, and consumer preferences. Over the Outlook period, world population is expected to reach 8.4 billion people; economic growth will continue to be unevenly spread around the world, with robust per capita income growth in emerging markets. Both population growth and economic growth are the main drivers of demand for agricultural commodities while the assumptions on continued productivity growth and on resource availability are shaping the production of agricultural commodities.
